\u00bbDas Werk \u203aDie Sammlung\u2039 besteht aus 30 verglasten Holzk\u00e4sten in den Ma\u00dfen
40 x 45 x 6 cm und ist zwischen 2020 und 2024 entstanden. Jeder Kasten ist einer der vielen aussterbenden Schmetterlings- oder K\u00e4ferarten gewidmet, deren Eigenart durch Farbwahl und chromatischen Abstufungen eine abstrakte Darstellung findet. Die tief beeindruckende Reihung der 30 K\u00e4sten mag in ihrer entschieden kodierten, gleichwohl frei lesbaren Farbigkeit ebenso an die Farbtabellen von Paul Klee wie an die Farbtafelbilder von Gerhard Richter erinnern. Die je mit 138 farbig und strukturell rhythmisierten T\u00e4felchen besteckten Schauk\u00e4sten wirken wie Notationen,\u00a0 musikalisch polyphone Partituren. Durch Rahmen und Schattenfall geraten die Tafeln je nach Lichteinfall zus\u00e4tzlich zu einem Schattenk\u00f6rper. Vom Apollofalter \u00fcber den Oleanderschw\u00e4rmer, den Trauerbock, geht es zum Aurorafalter und mittlerem Weinschw\u00e4rmer, ein wei\u00dfes T\u00e4felchen verzeichnet die
zum Farbenreigen aufgef\u00e4cherte Art des in die Farbe \u203ageretteten\u2039 Insekts. Die analytische Komponente der Wissenschaftlerin wird subtil in eine \u203ametaphysische Vielfalt\u2039 (Paul Feyerabend) gebracht und mit Ironie dargelegt.\u00ab\u00a0 Hubertus von Amelunxen, 2024<\/div>

\u00bbThe artwork \u203aThe Collection\u2039 consists of 30 glazed wooden boxes measuring
40 x 45 x 6 cm and was created between 2020 and 2024. Each box is dedicated to one of the many species of butterflies or beetles that are dying out, whose peculiarities are abstractly depicted through the choice of colours and chromatic gradations. The deeply impressive arrangement of the 30 boxes, with their decidedly coded yet freely legible colour scheme, may be reminiscent of Paul Klee’s colour charts as well as Gerhard Richter’s colour chart paintings.\u00a0The display cases, each containing 138 coloured and structurally rhythmic panels, appear like notations, musically polyphonic scores. Due to the frame and shadows, the panels also become a shadow body depending on the incidence of light.\u00a0From the Montain Apollo to the Oleander hawk moth, the Morimus longhorn beetle, the Orange-tip and the Elephant hawk moth, a white plaque lists the species of the insect \u203arescued\u2039 in colour, spread out in a colourful array. \u00bbThematisiert wird etwas, das uns alle angeht und bewegt: das Artensterben. Jeden Tag sterben rund 150 Arten aus \u2013 f\u00fcr immer. Vor diesem Hintergrund ist die Arbeit von Gerhild Ebel nicht allein k\u00fcnstlerisch spannend, sondern steht mitten in unserer Gegenwart.
Sammlungsk\u00e4sten sind tradierte Ordnungs- und Verwahrbeh\u00e4ltnisse, die schon in barocken Wunderkammern nachweisbar sind. Damals wurde mit diesen K\u00e4sten die F\u00fclle sortiert, geordnet und dem menschlichen Ma\u00df untergeordnet. Heute m\u00fcndet ein solches Prinzip unfreiwillig in der Anzeige von Fehlstellen und Verlusten.
Gerhild Ebel bedient sich dieser kulturhistorischen Tradition, ber\u00fchrt die Traditionen von Naturwissenschaften und Philosophie und zeigt statt aufgespie\u00dfter Insekten leere Schilder bedrohter Arten. Wie \u00fcblich, wird in jedem Kasten eine Schmetterlings- oder K\u00e4ferart gezeigt, die Gerhild Ebel jedoch in ihr eigenes Farbenspektrum zerlegt.

\u00bbIt addresses something that concerns and moves us all: the extinction of species. Every day, around 150 species become extinct \u2013 forever. Against this background, Gerhild Ebel’s work is not only exciting from an artistic point of view, but is also at the centre of our present. Collection boxes are traditional organising and storage containers that can be traced back to baroque cabinets of curiosities. Back then, these boxes were used to sort, organise, and subordinate the abundance to human proportions. Today, such a principle involuntarily results in the display of missing items and losses.
Gerhild Ebel draws on this cultural-historical tradition, touches on the traditions of natural sciences and philosophy, and instead of impaled insects, shows empty signs of endangered species. As usual, each box shows a species of butterfly or beetle, which Gerhild Ebel then breaks down into its own colour spectrum.
